To: Central District Industrial Technology Teachers
Subject: Central District Industrial Technology Contest and Expo
Where: CMSU Multipurpose Building, Warrensburg, Missouri
When: Thursday Evening April 20th and Friday April 21st, 2006
Greetings to all Central District I.T.E. Teachers. As President of the TEAM
Central District, I am writing to inform you that the 2006 Central District
Contest and Expo are just around the corner. This is an invitation for you and
your students to showcase their talents and compete with other schools in your
district in a wide variety of categories. The District Contest is scheduled
to take place Friday April 21, 2006 on the campus of Central Missouri State
University in the Multipurpose Building. Registration and projects may be delivered
on Thursday, April 20th from 4:00 to 8:30 P.M and Friday, April 21st from 7:00
to 8:30 AM. A more detailed schedule and registration information will be e-mailed
after you provide me with your current contact information.
This contest is available for all Industrial Technology Education teachers that
are a member of TEAM (Technology Education Association of Missouri) and teach
in the specified central district counties. If you are not a member of TEAM,
contact Mark Arnold at marnold@mail.thayer.k12.mo.us to pay your $20 dues. Teachers
that are not a member of TEAM by March 15th, 2006 will not be able to participate
in this years contest. Student projects are judged and awarded a Ribbon Rating
of I, II, or III and provided a certificate. Fifty Grand Prize Winners will
be selected from this year’s district contest to compete at the TEAM sponsored
State Contest. State Contest will be held at Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark,
May, 6 2006.
Starting this year, TEAM’s Central District Contest will be coordinated
and run by our members. CMSU and its faculty have been very gracious to coordinate
this contest in the past for our students and us. The time has come for Central
I.T.E. teachers to make a commitment to our organization and take ownership
of this contest. All districts around the state currently manage their own contests.
This years contest will be facilitated by the central district teachers that
volunteer to organize this contest. These volunteers will become a member of
the “2006 TEAM Central District Contest Committee”. Currently, only
a few teachers have volunteered to help with this years contest. More volunteers
are needed to make this contest a success, or even continued in the future.
In the past, I have overheard some teachers criticize or complain in regards
to contest operation. Now is the time for all teachers to step up and contribute.
I would like for individuals interested in being a part of “2006 TEAM
Central District Contest Committee” to contact me immediately. This committee
will be responsible to plan and coordinate the district contest. I would like
to thank Warrensburg High School teachers, Kevin Blevins and Steven Marr, for
managing the “Judging” portion of this years contest. Currently
we need more volunteers to help man the registration tables on Thursday evening
and Friday morning, setting up tables/signs Thursday afternoon, run expo events
Friday morning, and to compile registration information during the first part
of April. Contact me to see how you can contribute this year.
Now is an excellent opportunity to make any changes to the contest operation.
One item that will need to be discussed is increasing the entry fee for projects
to manage the contest costs that CMSU has absorbed for us in the past. We currently
have a fee of $2 per student and generates about $700 per year. Southwest District
currently charges $6 per entry with a max of $150 per school and a $5 Expo fee.
Another consideration would be to dismiss the mailed in registration and run
an on-site registration only. Please forward any ideas or concerns about these
topics or others that you have about the district contest. I will share this
information with the new “2006 TEAM Central District Contest Committee”
members.
Please take the time to forward me your contact information even if you don’t
plan to compete this year or join TEAM. The data I have been provided is not
accurate or very current. E-mail is quick, cost free, and a very effective medium
to communicate as a group. Currently, I only have about 20% of our teachers
e-mail addresses. By providing your current contact information to update our
database of central district teachers you can be included in correspondence
and kept abreast of happenings regarding Central District Industrial Technology
Education.
Remember, the future of the Central District Contest lies in our hands. I look
forward to hearing from you! E-mail, fax or mail the following information to
me: Name, Position, School, mailing address, County, phone number, fax number,
and E-mail address.
Thank you for your time and dedication to your students.
Respectfully,
Mitch Comer
